NUC Orders All Universities in Nigeria to Resume

Must Read

The NUC which is commission charged with handling activities of Nigerian Universities has instructed all Vice Chancellors of all Universities in Nigeria to restart their academic activities on 18th January, 2021.

According to the instruction given by the PTF concerning covid-19 with regards to school reopening all over the country, it made it clear that they willl still need to abide by covid-19 protocols.

This instruction was part of the press release made by the commission through Mr. Chris Maiyaki the Deputy Secretary today 8th January, 2021.

Prof. Abubakr Rasheed who was represented by Mr. Maiyaki advised universities to take caution and abide by the covid-19 guidelines set out by the NCDC concerning covid-19.

He explained that the protocols to follow have been made available many times to the needed university authorities by means of the commission’s circulars.

Mr Maiyaki made it explicitly clear that under no circumstances should universities break the university semester system  with goes hand in hand with the benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS)  which the NUC has given its consent on as they try to cover up for lost time.

Mr. Maiyaki also reminded staff members from Grade level 12 to stay back home for a month and one week just as the government had instructed them to do.

It should be noted that all public universities in Nigeria ceased any activities from early last year March due to the Industrial action that the ASUU underwent for 10 months.

To worsen matters, the lock down with regards to the corona virus pandemic forced students who had any hope of ASUU strike ending to return home and remain at home for months due to the lock down.

This news will be a great sign of relief of most students in the the tertiary institutions especially the final year students and the first year students in Nigeria.
